Danny Bryck to Play the iconic French role of Cyrano de Bergerac on alternating nights in English and Spanish.

Actor, performance poet, and no stranger to awkward love triangles, Danny Bryck will be taking on the role of Cryano, the proboscisly challenged swordsman and poet who uses his words to win his true love’s heart for the verbally challenged Christian.

Bryck is also part Cuban and speaks fluent Spanish, allowing him to play the role in both languages. “It’s been interesting to see how my impulses about the character can be totally different in each language,” he recently observed during rehearsals with the cast of 17. All perform in both languages, but Bryck is the only actor tackling a lead in both, and the first to do so in Apollinaire in the Park’s eight seasons.

A 2009 graduate of Boston University’s BFA Acting program, Danny has already made a splash in theatres around town in shows as diverse as Whistler in the Dark’s Family Stories, American Repertory Theatre’s The Donkey Show, Huntington Theatre Company’s The Corn is Green, and New Repertory Theatre’s tour of Animal Farm. His performance as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch earned him an IRNE nomination for Best Actor. He can also be seen performing with ImprovBoston, in independent films, and recently in a small recurring role on As The World Turns.

Bryck is thrilled to be playing Cyrano, a defining role, only a year after finishing his BFA. As an actor early in his career finding his footing on the professional stage, Bryck finds a great deal of personal resonance in the character of Cyrano, beyond the nose. “Cyrano is very much about choosing to stay true to himself in the face of the world’s demands. Everyone tells him to tone it down, be more realistic, and follow the fold, and he replies, vehemently, ‘no thank you!’ And as a young actor, I think I come up against those same kinds of demands.”
