When Balthasar, a Biblical-era thief, realizes he needs fortune and fame not only to satisfy his own pride, but also to win the girl of his dreams (or, more aptly, her father’s blessing), he stops at nothing to find the unassuming carpenter, Joseph. Unfortunately, Balthasar’s incessant impatience takes him and his two cohorts, Malchior and Caspar, along a meandering (but more often than not, fruitful) journey through a leper colony, the desert, and beyond. Twists, turns, and laughs ensue in this satire of the Biblical story.
