Steven Maler Directs ‘Macbeth’ for Shakespeare Now! Theatre Company


Shakespeare Now! Theatre Company presents Macbeth, directed by Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Steven Maler, on Saturday, Nov. 14, 8 p.m. at Tower Auditorium at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, 621 Huntington Ave., Boston. Tickets are $18 general admission, $16 for students and seniors. To reserve, call Shakespeare Now! Theatre Company at 617-734-3477.

This production of Macbeth will be seen by an anticipated 5,000 Massachusetts students, many of whom will be experiencing their first live Shakespeare play. The show opens Nov. 2 and runs through Nov. 20, Mondays through Fridays at 10 a.m. Tickets for student matinees are $10.

This collaboration marks the first time Maler directs for a company catering to younger audiences. “It’s an opportunity to share the goal of bringing quality, accessible Shakespeare to the residents of Massachusetts,” said Maler.

Linda Lowy, Shakespeare Now!’s Founding Artistic Director, said, “Steve brings an exciting, contemporary vision to his Shakespeare every summer on Boston Common. His imaginative direction makes Shakespeare accessible to audiences of all ages. Our students will be on the edge of their seats with this gripping show.”

Macbeth features Dan Roach in the title role. Dan starred CSC’s The Comedy of Errors last summer. Lady Macbeth will be played by Kami Rushell Smith who was featured in Actors’ Shakespeare Project’s Much Ado About Nothing. Also in the cast: Erin Brehm, Jeremy Brown, Douglas J. Cochrane, Wayne Fritsche, J.R. Killigrew, Grant MacDermott, Kara Manson, Megan Reynolds, Omar Robinson. Scenic Design by Brynna Bloomfield, Costume Design by Elena Sanders, Lighting Design by Kristin Hayes and Sound Design by Dewey Dellay.
